WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Former NSA security contractor Edward Snowden has left Hong Kong and is currently enroute to Ecuador for asylum, according to authorities.

WikiLeaks made a statement that it is giving Snowden legal assistance and that his asylum request will be formally processed once he arrives in Ecuador.

“He is bound for the Republic of Ecuador via a safe route for the purposes of asylum, and is being escorted by diplomats and legal advisors from WikiLeaks,” WikiLeaks has stated on their website.

Snowden is taking a multi-country route to his final destination; he has arrived in Moscow and will shortly be leaving for Cuba.

Hong Kong has denied the United States’ extradition request because the local government has “not obtained adequate information” to handle a provisional arrest warrant for Snowden.
