PAROLE, Md. — The Anne Arundel County Health Department has lifted restrictions on swimming at three beaches after samples showed bacterial levels had returned to acceptable levels.

Officials said on Friday that Beverly Beach on the Chesapeake Bay near Mayo, London Towne at Arundel Road Beach on the South River in Edgewater and Upper Magothy Beach on the Magothy River in Severna Park that restrictions were lifted. New samples were collected on Monday.

Health officials say they don’t know yet what caused the high readings, but waterfowl, rainfall, water temperature and tidal action can contribute.
