BLACKSBURG, Va. — Families of victims of the Virginia Tech and Newtown shootings are gathering in Blacksburg to voice support for federal gun policies.

The Friday rally is part of the “No More Names: National Drive to Reduce Gun Violence” bus tour of 25 states over 100 days.

Officials say the families will thank Virginia Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner for supporting federal legislation to expand background checks for gun buyers that failed in the Senate in April.

The legislation would have applied to buyers in commercial settings such as gun shows and online. It exempted non-commercial transactions such as sales between friends and relatives.

The bus tour is organized by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a group co-founded by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
