HERNDON, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — One teen was killed and three others were injured after touching an electrical wire atop Fox Mill Elementary School in Herndon, police say.
Derick Rill says it was his 14-year-old son, Bennett Rill, who was killed at about 9 p.m. Tuesday after finishing his last day of middle school that afternoon.
Police told him the boys were climbing a fence and used the wire as leverage to get onto the roof. He says Bennett went to help a teen who had fallen when he got tangled in the wire. Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other teens, two 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old, were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities are working to determine why the teens were on the campus, but Fairfax County Police say it does not appear they were attempting to break in the school.
The teens have not been officially identified by police.
