ROCKVILLE, Md. (CBSDC) — The eastbound lanes of Veirs Mill Road in Rockville have reopened following a violent single-car accident that claimed the life of one person Wednesday morning.

The accident took place shortly after 3 a.m. near Turkey Branch Parkway. The force of the collision severed a utility pole, causing it to dangle in the air, suspended by power lines.

Pepco crews are at the crash scene and surveying damage to lines.

The driver was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by Montgomery County Police.

The eastbound lanes of the roadway were closed for nearly five hours between Parkland Drive and Turkey Branch Parkway.
