BALTIMORE — A police trainee who was shot in the head during a training accident in Maryland earlier this year has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit.

Raymond Gray, a trainee for the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus police, was shot in February at a firearms training center on the grounds of the former Rosewood Center. City police were administering the training at the center, a now-shuttered state hospital for the mentally disabled in the Baltimore suburb of Owings Mills.

WBAL-TV reports the lawsuit filed Friday in Baltimore City Circuit Court argues the city was negligent by not ensuring safe procedures.

Gray lost an eye as a result of the shooting. The officer who allegedly shot him, William S. Kern, has been charged criminally.
