FREDERICK, Md. — The former president of the Parent Teacher Association at a Frederick County school has been charged with stealing more than $10,000 from the organization.
Police say 45-year-old Amy Baker of Frederick has acknowledged taking the money from Whittier Elementary School’s PTA bank account in 2011 and 2012. Authorities received a complaint in October about funds missing from the account. Baker is charged with theft of $10,000 to under $100,000, embezzlement and other offenses.
Charging documents state that the money paid for groceries, clothing, home decor, a cable TV bill, restaurant meals and sports equipment. In charging documents, police say Baker used the account as if it were her personal checking account, but she was apologetic, saying she was desperate to provide for her children.
