NEW YORK— Davey Johnson has been selected as a coach for next month’s All-Star game at Citi Field, along with Mets manager Terry Collins.
As per the more recent tradition, managers of the previous year’s World Series teams are designated as All-Star Game managers, then are allowed to handpick their coaches.
Bruce Bochy, this year’s NL manager, selected Collins, the current manager of the Mets, and Johnson, who managed New York to its last World Series title in 1986.
American League manager Jim Leyland selected current White Sox manager and former Mets star Robin Ventura, and Blue Jays manager John Gibbins as his assistants.
The All-Star Game will be held July 16.[tweet https://twitter.com/AllStarGame/status/345182388013391872 width=”420″]
