WASHINGTON — DC police have made a second arrest in the stabbing and strangulation death of a man found by a creek in a northeast Washington park.
Police arrested 28-year-old Mark Anthony Coats of Washington on Tuesday and charged him with first-degree murder while armed in the death of 56-year-old Leroy Studevant, a vendor who sold bottled water and newspapers at Eastern Market.
Studevant was found unconscious near a creek in Marvin Gaye Park on New Year’s Eve 2011 and was later pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was strangulation associated with piercing blunt-force trauma.
Thirty-one-year-old Alex Jerome Cater of Washington was arrested in May 2012 and charged with second-degree murder while armed in Studevant’s death.
