Jack Evans Announces Bid for D.C. Mayor in 2014

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Councilmember Jack Evans officially announced his bid for D.C. mayor Saturday, joining fellow councilmembers Muriel Bowser and Tommy Wells in the race.

The Ward 2 councilman made the announcement in front of Le Diplomate, a French restaurant on the corner of 14th and Q streets in NW, which Evans says was an abandoned dry cleaner when he first ran for mayor fifteen years ago; an example of the revitalization he’s been a part of in D.C. politics.

Evans informally announced his candidacy on Twitter Thursday. He was first elected the D.C. Council in a special election in 1991, and has been re-elected every four years since 1992.

Current Mayor Vincent Gray has not yet said whether he’ll be seeking re-election in 2014.
