Pepper Spray Use Evacuates Md. School, Sends Students to Hospital
GERMANTOWN, Md. — Five students are being taken to a hospital for evaluation after pepper spray was used inside a Montgomery County middle school.
County fire officials say Roberto Clemente Middle School in Germantown was evacuated Friday morning after an unusual odor was reported and some students began feeling ill.
Students were allowed to return to the building about an hour later after it was ventilated.
Officials say about two dozen students were evaluated on the scene. The fire department says five students and one adult were taken to the hospital for evaluation and check-ups.
It wasn’t immediately clear why the pepper spray was activated. Police are investigating.
