D.C. United Officially Has Its Own Beer; Available Saturday
WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Congratulations, D.C. United. You now officially have your own beer — “The Tradition.”
The soccer club announced Donald Wine II’s brew name as the winner of its “Brand The Brew” contest in conjunction with D.C. Brau Brewing Company Thursday.
Midfielder Chris Pontius surprised the winner with a phone call to inform him that his submission beat out 533 others to represent the team.
“[To] have a beer that I named in kegs or on shelves, or even just to have people drinking it—I’m going to be walking around with the utmost pride that I was even a part of that,” Wine said.
Pontius, along with defenders Ethan White and Dejan Jakovic, picked the name of the custom crafted beer.
The beverage will make its debut this Saturday from 12-4 p.m. at Growler Hours on Bladensburg Road NE.
The brew is in limited supply, however. Only two kegs of “The Tradition” will be available for growler fills. One sixtel will be made available for tasting.
Fans wearing D.C. United gear or carrying season ticket cards will receive $1 off the price of a growler.
The beer will also be tapped during a viewing party for the United’s match against the New England Revolution on Saturday at The Pug on H Street NE.
