Everyone who was in the building when the fire started got out safely but two firefighters sustained non-life threatening injuries fighting the blaze.
Bystanders tell WNEW’s George Mesthos that damage to the building is heartbreaking, as Frager’s is a city landmark.
According to the store’s website, it has been at that location since it opened in 1920.
Pennsylvania Avenue SE between 8th and 14th Streets will remain blocked in both directions until the fire investigation is completed, according to D.C. police.
This story will be updated as more details become available.
