LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A 13-year-old girl was critically injured when she was struck by a van transporting daycare children in Howard County on Tuesday afternoon.

The collision occurred just after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Vollmerhausen Road and Castleford Drive in Savage, Howard County police said.

Multiple witnesses told police the girl was struck after stepping into the roadway in front of the 14-passenger van owned by La Petite Academy.

The teen was flown to Shock Trauma at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center where she’s in critical condition. None of the five children in the van were injured, police said.

Howard County police are investigating the accident.
