WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — New houses are being built in the area, and while home construction in itself is not unordinary in the DMV, these are being erected on the National Mall.
The seven houses, representing each branch of the U.S. military, the Guard and the Reserves, are meant to draw attention to Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build program, which serves military members and veterans with homeownership, volunteer and employment opportunities. And while the homes won’t stay on the Mall, they will remain in the D.C. area.
It’s “a national tragedy” that thousands of U.S. military veterans are among the country’s homeless, Habitat spokesman Christopher Ptomey told WNEW’s John Domen.
After the build, the frames will be delivered to Habitat affiliates in the DMV and completed in partnership with Habitat partner families.
