Condition of Fan Hurt at Nationals Game Worsens

BALTIMORE — A University of Maryland Medical Center official says the condition of a man injured in a fight and fall at an Orioles game has worsened.

Hospital spokeswoman Karen Lancaster said Tuesday morning that 25-year-old Matthew Fortese of Hagerstown is now in critical condition at the hospital’s Shock Trauma center. She says he was in serious condition after his fall at Thursday’s game against the Washington Nationals.

Baltimore police say Fortese, who was wearing a New York Yankees cap, climbed a 5-foot wall at Oriole Park at Camden Yards to confront 21-year-old Michael Bell, who was throwing beer at people. Police say as Fortese argued with Bell, Bell’s friend, 22-year-old Gregory Fleischman, punched Fortese in the side of the head and he fell.

Fleischman and Bell were both charged with assault.
