Suspicious Vehicle Shuts Down Parts of Dupont Circle

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Police have taken a man into custody that was driving a suspicious vehicle in Dupont Circle, all streets are currently open.

Authorities shut down 17th and R ST NW around 5:30 p.m. Monday in response to calls of a suspicious vehicle filled with gas canisters in the area.

When they arrived they found a man in a Honda Civic with writing on the vehicle referencing September 11.

Ross Elementary and the nearby area was evacuated.

Police strip searched the car, pulling out numerous books and other belongings.

The man also had writing on his clothing referencing guns and the United States.
