LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A pair power outages in downtown D.C. has left thousands of people in the dark Thursday, officials say.

About 1,200 Pepco customers in the Foggy Bottom, Dupont Circle, U Street corridor and Bloomingdale areas of the District are without power. Earlier in the day that number was at more than 5,500. Several traffic lights along Rhode Island Avenue from Logan Circle to North Capitol Street also were without power but have since been turned back on.

A Pepco spokesperson said there’s two separate outages, both of which were caused by a problem with underground feeder lines. The outages were first reported at about 3:15 p.m.

They said crews are on the scene working to fix the problem but they don’t yet have an estimated restoration time. The outages in the area can be viewed here.
