LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An 8-year-old boy suspended from school for eating a pastry into the shape of a gun is now a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Officials at Park Elementary School in Anne Arundel County, Md. received criticism for their decision to suspend Josh Welch for two days in early March.
The school system says they have zero tolerance policy on guns, even those fashioned out of a Pop-Tart.
The Baltimore Sun reports the NRA gave Welch the membership along with a gun-shaped pastry and firearm safety tips during a Republican fundraiser Wednesday night in Glen Burnie.
Welch admits he doesn’t know what the NRA is and that he’s the only one in his family to have a membership.
