Police Chase Ends with School Bus Crash in D.C.; Adult, Child Injured

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A police chase that began in Prince George’s County ended in a head-on collision between a fleeing vehicle and a school bus, sending an adult and child to the hospital in Washington Thursday morning.
The incident began around 7:30 a.m. in District Heights when two armed men wearing ski masks demanded a person surrender the Mercedes 350 CLK they were driving, police say.
A short time later, officers located and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspects attempted to flee at which point a pursuit was initiated, authorities say.
D.C. Police joined the pursuit about ten minutes later when the Mercedes crossed the city’s border.
The suspects crashed head on into a school bus while attempting to make a left hand turn at Texas Avenue and Ridge Road, SE, police say.
An adult and a child riding on the bus were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities say they have apprehended one of the suspects as well as the handgun used in the carjacking. A second suspect remains at-large.
A number of other vehicles were also damaged in the crash.
Texas Avenue was closed in both directions between Ridge Road and Adrian Street, SE for a time as a result of the crash.
