Md. 5th Grader To Present Business Idea to Warren Buffett

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Lots of Howard County students like to read, but not all of them are working with the Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship to market that passion in front of billionaires.
Krissa Hillman, an 11-year-old 5th grader at Bollman Bridge Elementary in Jessup, is a finalist in Warren Buffett’s Secret Millionaires Club Grow Your Own Business Challenge. The national competition encourages student to come up with fresh business concepts. About 4,000 contestants between the ages of 7 to 16 entered this year.
Krissa’s standout idea was Cupcakes for Literacy, a business created to sell baked goods benefit reading programs, libraries and local schools. It has already enjoyed some success. Krissa organized a bake sale during parent-teacher conferences and was able to raise $258 in six hours. The funds were given to the school’s library.
She will be flying to Omaha, Nebraska, with other finalists this weekend to personally present her idea to Berkshire Hathaway CEO and Forbes-ranked billionaire Warren Buffett. The winner of the competition will receive $5,000.
