CLINTON, Md. (CBSDC) — A man shot and killed his estranged wife before turning the gun on himself in front of a home in Prince George’s County Wednesday night, police say.

Authorities believe an argument between Jason Taffe, 47 of Silver Spring, and Denise Taffe, 41, turned violent at her home in the 7700 block of Pinewood Drive in Clinton around 10:20 p.m.

Police say Mr. Taffe pulled out a shotgun and fatally shot the woman shortly before taking his own life, a preliminary investigation reveals.

Their bodies were discovered laying in the yard when authorities arrived. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors say they were startled by the sound of gunfire while preparing for bed.

“I brushed my teeth and I heard two bangs. And then I stepped out of the bathroom and was looking around and heard the last one,” one neighbor said.

Firefighters hosed off the front yard shortly before 5 a.m. in an effort to wash away the bloody scene. The area is heavily trafficked by parents and children walking to nearby Stephen Decatur Middle School.

Prince George’s County Police ask anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact detectives.
