Police: Howard County Teen Had Boyfriend Kill Father
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — A 14-year-old girl and her 19-year-old boyfriend have been charged in the murder of the girl’s father, a popular Howard County blogger, police say.
Morgan Lane Arnold, 14, and Jason Anthony Bulmer, 19, are charged with first- and second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Arnold’s father, Dennis Lane.
Lane, 58, author of “Tales Of Two Cities” — a blog centered around the happenings of Ellicott City and Columbia — was found stabbed to death in his Ellicott City home in the 8100 block of Winding Ross Way just before 4:30 a.m. Friday, according to Howard County police.
Arnold and Bulmer were charged in the murder Friday afternoon. Arnold is charged as an adult.
A bail hearing for Arnold and Bulmer was scheduled for Monday morning in Howard County District Court.
Police say the two teenagers used electronic communication over a two-month period to conspire and discuss killing Lane. Investigators believe Arnold left a basement door unlocked so Bulmer could get into the house.
Officers say Arnold encouraged Bulmer to stab her father in an upstairs bedroom. Police say another adult in the home heard noise and called 911.
The two teens were students at Mount Hebron High School in Ellicott City. Counselors are at the school Monday to offer assistance to students.
Authorities say it is unclear what motivated the crime.
