Police: Laurel Man Shot Wife, Stepdaughter Before Surrendering
LAUREL, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — A 59-year-old Laurel man faces charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder after he shot and killed his wife and adult stepdaughter in the family’s home Monday morning, police say.
Ronnie Lee Rainey called 9-1-1 around 10 a.m. to say he had killed relatives, according to investigators. He then barricaded himself in the house, on the 16100 block of Malcolm Drive, and threatened to kill himself. Officers on the scene and 9-1-1 dispatchers were able to convince him to surrender.
The shooting victims have been identified as 50-year-old Lisa Renee Rainey and 27-year-old Ariale Chantre Shelton.
Investigators say Rainey also took a shot at his teenage son, who managed to escape the house uninjured. Another man, who police did not identify, got out of the house unharmed as well.
A woman on the scene identifying herself as a family friend told WNEW’s Karen Adams that the couple had been married for 15 years.
