LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — After a school official reported a disorderly child on a special needs school bus in Winchester, Virginia Monday morning, a police officer responded to calm the student down and sit with him for the duration of the bus ride.

Before the bus reached the school, the student managed to reach his finger into the officer’s gun holster and fire his weapon, police say.

No one was injured as a result of the gunfire, which hit the floor of the vehicle. Four students, the bus driver, a bus aide and the officer were on the bus at the time.

The students were deposited safely to Daniel Morgan Middle School after the incident and the Winchester Police Department is reviewing the situation per departmental policy.

The student is not facing charges.
