Boomer Esiason: ‘Every Time I Go to D.C the Rangers Freakin’ Lose’
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Boomer Esiason is a hardcore New York Rangers fan. He’s also a jinx when at the Verizon Center.
So, when his beloved Rangers skate in tonight’s winner-take-all Game 7 against the Washington Capitals, he’ll be watching the game like the majority of us — from the comfort of his couch in high definition.
“Every time I go there, the Rangers freaking lose,” Esiason told Holden Kushner and Danny Rouhier on 106.7 The FAN.
Coincidentally, his good friend Ron Rubin is a diehard Capitals fan who has the same jinx (in reverse) at Madison Square Garden.
As a man who proudly rocks the red and his a ‘good friend,’ Mr. Rubin wishes to extend first-class hospitality to Boomer at the Phone Booth tonight.
“He’s trying to bribe me to come down there,” said Esiason. “He said, ‘I got a seat for you. It’s all good to go.’ But I said I’m not coming down for this Game 7.”
The question is whether his absence will be enough to give New York the first road win of the series and punch the Rangers’ ticket to the second round of the playoffs.
Esiason predicts another low scoring, one goal contest with intense corner and stick battles along the boards. The team that comes up short in that area will be heading home shortly after the horn sounds for the final time.
So who does he think will win? He stopped short of sticking his neck out and picking a victor. As such, he’ll be the winner on his show tomorrow morning.
