RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The man who came with celebrity cachet to run the kitchen at Virginia’s Executive Mansion in 2010 is now accused of pilfering food from the governor’s residence and has emerged as a central figure in a growing political scandal.

Todd Schneider arrived at the Richmond mansion in 2010 after Gov. Bob McDonnell’s election. The 52-year-old restaurateur, caterer and chef was fired in 2012 and indicted this year on embezzlement charges.

The scandal involves gift-giving by the CEO of a small manufacturer of nutritional supplements to McDonnell and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Executive Jonnie Williams also paid Schneider for catering the wedding of the governor’s daughter.

Neither McDonnell nor Cuccinelli are charged with wrongdoing.

But Schneider’s attorneys have hinted that the full scope of the scandal has yet to be revealed.
