Woman Hit by SUV, Killed at Bus Stop in Montgomery County

WHEATON, Md. — Montgomery County police say a 77-year-old woman was killed when an SUV hit the Wheaton bus shelter where she was sitting.
Police say the driver of a Ford Explorer lost control during a U-turn on Veirs Mill Road on Thursday afternoon. They say the driver lost control after the car hit a curb during the turn. The car crossed westbound lanes, hopped the median then crossed eastbound lanes and crashed through the bus shelter, where Maria Lusminia Colindres of Silver Spring was sitting.
Police say Colindres was taken to an area hospital where she died.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation.
