ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — A popular Howard County blogger was killed in his home early Friday morning and police have charged the man’s daughter and her boyfriend with his murder, police said.

Dennis Lane, 58, author of “Tales Of Two Cities” — a blog centered around the happenings of Ellicott City and Columbia — was stabbed to death in his home in the 8100 block of Winding Ross Way just before 4:30 a.m., according to Howard County police.

Morgan Lane Arnold, Lane’s 14-year-old daughter, and her boyfriend, Jason Anthony Bulmer, 19, were charged with first- and second-degree murder Friday afternoon. Arnold is charged as an adult.

Police say the two teenagers used electronic communication to discuss killing Lane. Investigators believe Arnold left a basement door unlocked so Bulmer could get into the house.

Officers say Arnold encouraged Bulmer to stab her father in an upstairs bedroom. Police say another adult in the home heard noise and called 911.

Authorities say it is unclear what motivated the crime.
