ARLINGTON, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — Searchers looking for an 83-year-old woman who went missing after arriving at a Washington airport from Barbados have found her body near the airport.
U.S. Park Police spokesman Paul Brooks says a body was found at about 2 p.m. Monday by a team with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police on land at Gravelly Point, not far from Reagan National Airport. Authorities later confirmed that the body is that of the missing woman, Victoria Kong.
She was last seen Friday evening leaving the airport on foot, walking north along a paved trail for hikers and bicycles. Brooks said Kong’s body was found about 30 feet from a bike trail in a wooded area.
Kong’s family says they were waiting for her to be escorted off the flight by wheelchair, but she never showed up. Granddaughter Alexandria Anderson says Kong is showing some early signs of dementia.
Brooks said the investigation into her death is continuing.
