BRANDYWINE, Md. (CBSDC) — The first week of May is proving to be a menacing one for Washington area motorcycle riders.

The latest incident came late Thursday night when two men were killed when their bikes slammed into a minivan in Brandywine, police say.

A minivan was pulling onto Route 301 from Shortcut Road onto northbound Route 301 when it was struck by the motorcycles. There is a stop sign at the intersection.

A witness says the bikers were traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident occurred. A third biker was able to avoid the collision.

The driver of minivan was not seriously injured.

Earlier in the week, a pair of motorcycle accidents on consecutive days, one of which was fatal, completely shutdown the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Virginia. In both cases, the riders were thrown from their bikes and into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer.
