GREAT FALLS, Va. (CBSDC) — Georgetown Pike is closed at Applewood Lane due to an accident involving downed power lines.

The traffic snarling began around 7:30 a.m. Thursday when a car struck a power pole in the eastbound lane of the roadway, Fairfax County Police say.

Cars are being detoured at Springvale Road while crews work to repair the damaged pole and clear the roadway.

The closure is expected to last four to six hours according to WNEW reporter Kevin Patrick.

“He hit the wrong pole in the wrong place and now there’s a lot of work to do,” said Patrick.

Dominion Virginia Power says about 450 customers were left in the dark due to the accident. Crews are working to reroute the electricity and restore power to homes before the accident cleanup is complete.
