CHEVY CHASE, Md. (CBSDC) — Police are searching for four suspects who allegedly robbed a high-end jewelry store in Maryland and led police on a chase through D.C. on Tuesday.
Montgomery County police received a report of a robbery just after 11 a.m. at the Cartier jewelry store at 5471 Wisconsin Ave. in Chevy Chase near the Maryland-D.C. line.
Police said multiple masked suspects took control of the store but didn’t display any weapons. They broke at least one display case and removed several pieces of jewelry.
The suspects fled in a black Dodge Charger heading north on Wisconsin Avenue and were pursued by an off-duty Montgomery County police officer. The suspects then made their way onto Connecticut Avenue and headed south into the District. Montgomery County police ended their pursuit at the D.C. line due to department protocol.
D.C. police continued the chase, which came to an end on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue near Halley Place in Southeast after an officer involved in the chase crashed his cruiser. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police did not know how much jewelry was taken or the value of the property that was stolen, but Bethesda Now reports that police scanner traffic said 12 watches valued at $150,000 were taken in the heist.
Police don’t yet have descriptions of the suspects.
No injuries were reported during the robbery.
