‘House of Cards’ Filming Second Season in Md.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — The Netflix drama series “House of Cards” has started filming its second season in Maryland.

Gov. Martin O’Malley announced Monday that the show has returned to production. “House of Cards” is a political drama starring Kevin Spacey that’s set in Washington but shot largely in Baltimore. The producers are taking advantage of a tax credit Maryland offers to film productions. Many states offer similar incentives to Hollywood, but the District of Columbia does not, which is one reason that many shows and movies set in the nation’s capital are shot elsewhere.

The Legislature more than tripled Maryland’s film tax credit for $25 million for the next fiscal year. The Democratic governor says the expanded tax credit is what persuaded the producers to return “House of Cards” to Maryland.

Filming began Monday.
