Dating Site Study Says D.C. is 5th Most Superficial U.S. City

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — D.C. is the fifth most superficial city in America, topping locales such as Los Angeles, New York and Miami, according to a study done by dating site

Using Google Analytics, the site conducted a national study to determine which cities’ members are quickest to judge the dating potential of other members. The results of the research showed that it only takes 9.8 seconds for District dwellers to decide whether to contact or dismiss someone they are considering.

Salt Lake City, Portland (Ore.), Houston and Chicago topped D.C. on the list of most superficial cities. Members in those areas spent, respectively, 7.2 seconds, 7.7 seconds, 8.3 seconds and 8.6 seconds pondering whether to contact other members.

An actual poll of 1,248 D.C.-based members (550 males and 698 females) showed that they valued a member’s profile picture, income, occupation, age and body type above all else when considering them. is an auction-style match service that allows members to name their price for a date with another member. Once an offer is received, the bid-upon party can accept, deny or counter the offer, which may suggest that the site could have just made the “most superficial” list based on which cities had the most members per capita.
