LAUREL, Md. (CBSDC) — A Prince George’s County police officer was involved in a serious accident early Monday morning.

Officials say the officer lost control of his vehicle near Route 1 and Contee Road in Laurel, Md. around 2 a.m. His cruiser struck a light pole which then fell on top of a parked car at an automotive dealership.

First responders cut the roof off the cruiser to pull the trapped officer from the wreck.

The unidentified officer is in the hospital for observation, but is not believed to have suffered any serious injuries according to Prince George’s County Police Corporal Clinton Copeland.

Authorities say weather may have been a factor in the crash.
