ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — It’s a good time to live near the nation’s capital, according to Forbes.
The business magazine ranked the country’s wealthiest counties and six of the top 10 are in the D.C. metro area.
Loudoun County in Virginia tops the list for the second consecutive year. Households in Loudoun County boast a median income of $119,525, the highest of any county in the U.S.
Home to Dulles International Airport, Loudoun County has fed off government contracting as its population has nearly doubled since 2001, to more than 325,000.
Five other counties in the D.C. area also rank in the top 10. Falls Church City comes in second with a median household income of $117,481. Fairfax County, the state’s largest county, is fourth with a median household income of $105,409.
Howard County in Maryland, the state’s smallest county area-wise, ranks sixth with a median household income of $99,040. Arlington County ranks seventh and Prince William County comes in 10th, with median household incomes of $98,060 and $93,101, respectively.
