WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – The Redskins have selected tight end Jordan Reed out of Florida with the 85th selection in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Reed, 6-foot-3, 236-pounds, led the Gators with 45 catches for 559 yards and three touchdowns in 2012, in a campaign that made him an All-SEC first-teamer.

He clocked a 4.70 40-time at the NFL Combine.

This pick could be an insurance policy for the Redskins, as Fred Davis is scheduled to hit Free Agency again in 2014.

“I haven’t had any contact with them at all,” Reed said in a conference call. “I had no idea I was going to be picked by Washington. Big surprise.”
