Lovettsville Elementary School Evacuated for Suspicious Powdery Substance

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An elementary school in Loudoun County was evacuated after an employee opened a package containing a suspicious powdery substance, officials say.

Authorities say they were called to Lovettsville Elementary School shortly before 9 a.m. and evacuated students shortly thereafter.

Tests conducted determined the powdery substance posed no threat and student were allowed to return to class around 10:30 a.m., authorities say.

Three people who were near the package when it was opened were placed in isolation as EMS officials investigated.

Officials say there do not appear to be any injuries or health problems related to the substance.
