WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - The Redskins have elected to help out their defense with their first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, selecting corner back David Amerson out of N.C. State with the 51st pick overall.

Standing at 6’1″ 205 lbs., Amerson brings size and speed to Washington’s troubled defensive backfield that ranked 30th in pass defense last season. He clocked a 4.35 40-time at this year’s combine, according to CBS Sports.

Along with setting the ACC and N.C. State single-season record for interceptions in 2011, Amerson’s 13 interceptions also tied for the second highest season total in FBS history. He was one of three finalists for the Thorpe Award that same season.

He finished the 2012 season with 5 interceptions.
