LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — With celebrity guests like Bill Nye the Science Guy, Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Levar Burton and Victor Cruz of the New York Giants, the White House Science Fair is definitely cooler than yours was.

Today, President Obama is hosting the 3rd annual event, which celebrates student winners of science, technology, engineering and math competitions from across the country.

A robot that paints with watercolor, a computer program that improves cancer detection, a 3D-printed prosthetic arm, a bicycle-powered emergency water-sanitation station are among the dozens of projects being showcased.

Obama also plans to make announcements Monday regarding new elements of his Educate to Innovate campaign, an effort to get more students inspired to excel in STEM subjects.
