Frederick Douglass Bridge Reopened After Malfunction

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A ship in the Anacostia River sparked a major traffic issue along South Capitol Street in the District Sunday morning.

The Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge got stuck in the open position, at about a 45 degree angle, around 4 a.m. Sunday when it opened to let a large ship come through.

Some workers got stuck on the center span of the swing bridge when an electrical cable shorted, but none of them were in danger, according to authorities.

The bridge reopened shortly after noon.
