Man Dies After Being Tasered By Police In Gaithersburg
GAITHERSBURG, Md. (CBSDC) — A strangely acting man is dead after being tasered by police in Montgomery County Friday evening.
Police say officers responded to 8800 block of Cross Country Place in Gaithersburg around 6:10 p.m. after a 911 caller said a man was standing in parked pick-up truck, hitting it with rocks, yelling profanities and crawling on other vehicles.
Responding officers say the unidentified 51-year-old man jumped onto the roof of an adjacent SUV when they arrived and began acting in a more aggressive manner. When the man ignored orders to get off the car officers sprayed him with pepper spray.
Police say the spray did little to subdue the man who then approached a residence, picked up a child’s scooter and struck it against the front door.
After the man ignored orders to get off the front porch of the home police say two officers tasered him.
As he was being handcuffed, authorities say they noticed the man was not breathing. CPR was administered immediately and the man was taken to nearby Shady Grove Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
As a matter of police protocol, he responding officers are currently on administrative leave.
