CALVERT COUNTY, Md. (CBSDC) – A ray of hope for the homeless in Maryland’s Calvert County is Echo House, a homeless shelter that runs 365 days a year on a small budget. Executive Director Trisha Gipson says they focus on helping men, women and families get back on their feet.
“We’re more of a transitional shelter. We’re not like an inner city type shelter where there are mattresses on the floor…our facility is set up in more of a dorm-like setting.”
Echo House holds a number of fundraisers, including their annual “Empty Bowl Supper” where participants buy an empty bowl and share in some soup.
That recently raised $32,000, but Echo House can always use donations to help with the 18,000 meals and nearly 13, 000 nights of safe rest they provide each year.
