More Than 20K D.C. Workers To Get Pay Raises
WASHINGTON — More than 20,000 District of Columbia government workers are set to receive pay raises.
Mayor Vincent Gray announced Wednesday that his administration has agreed to pay raises for about 13,000 unionized employees and another 10,000 nonunion workers. The pay hikes will total 13 percent over four years.
Gray has set aside $56 million for pay raises in his budget proposal. He says he considers the new salaries “righting an injustice” that has lasted several years.
The city’s police officers, firefighters and teachers still have not received pay raises. Negotiations on new contracts for those workers continue. Talks with the firefighters’ union have been especially contentious and are heading for arbitration.
