Va. Supreme Court Justice Finished Boston Marathon Just Before Blast
RICHMOND, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — Virginia Supreme Court Justice Bill Mims crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon about five minutes before two bombs exploded on Monday.
The dedicated distance runner told The Associated Press in an exchange of text messages that he was not injured.
He says he was about 100 yards away when the first bomb exploded on a sidewalk jammed with spectators near the finish line to one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious marathons.
A second bomb detonated a few seconds later about a block away.
Authorities say three people were killed and more than 170 were injured, at least 17 of them critically.
Mims was among 23,000 runners in the race.
