LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — Police have confirmed that Rebecca and Cameron Serafin were seen in the baggage claim area at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas around 10 p.m. last Thursday, after arriving on a Southwest Airlines flight from Birmingham, Ala.
Cameron was seen on airport surveillance video wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, black and white pajama type pants and a gray, train engineer’s type hat. Rebecca appeared to be wearing a black hat, a dark jacket and blue jeans. She was carrying two large pieces of luggage.
Officials believe the could be headed for Los Angeles.
Police have been looking for Rebecca Serafin, 32, and 5-year-old Cameron for more than a week after Serafin failed to return Cameron to the custody of his father on April 7 as scheduled.
Joe Serafin, Cameron’s father, says he started worrying when he was notified on April 4 that his son had not been in school all week long. Serafin said he only found out about his son’s absence because he was calling the school, Forestville Elementary, to volunteer as a field trip chaperon.
He got increasingly worried when he didn’t hear from Rebecca Serafin on April 8, when she was supposed to drop the boy off with him. He then learned from the woman’s parents that she had told them she and the boy were going out of town.
“When I tried contacting her there was no response,” he said. “I’m concerned for him, I’m worried about him and I just want him back home safe.”
Detectives believe the woman altered her appearance as well as that of the child in an attempt to hide. Police say they have reason to be concerned about the child’s welfare.
Rebecca Serafin’s car, along with other items, were recently discovered leading police to conclude she wishes to remain in hiding. Serafin is also known to use the alias Rebecca Love and authorities believe she may also use Cameron Love as an alias for her son.
Rebecca Serafin has a felony warrant out for her arrest, charging her with felony parental abduction.
Rebecca Serafin is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs between 120 and 130 pounds. Cameron is 3 feet 5 inches tall and weighs approximately 40 pounds.
