D.C. Area On Heightened Security After Boston Blasts

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — D.C. police say they are in a state of heightened security following two explosions at the Boston Marathon.
Police spokeswoman Saray Leon says she did not immediately have further information on the increase in security or what security measures police were taking in response to the explosions.
Metro Transit Police Chief Ronald Pavlik has ordered all day-shift patrol officers to remain on duty through this evening’s rush hour to increase the security posture of the transit system.

Metro is taking this step in an abundance of caution following the Boston blasts, but officials say there is no specific or credible threat against the Metro system at this time.
Nearby, Prince George’s County Police say they are increasing security at all critical infrastructures in the county.
Officials say they have been in communication with state and federal authorities, but have not received any threats specific to the county.
Prince George’s Police say the measure is strictly precautionary.
