D.C. Council Candidates Face Fundraising Deadline
WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) – With just over a week to go before a special election for a D.C. Council seat, the candidates are facing a key deadline.
The last campaign finance reports candidates have to file before the election are due Monday.
Interim Councilmember Anita Bonds is trying to hold onto the seat, which became vacant after Phil Mendelson was elected council chairman. She faces five challengers: fellow Democrats Matthew Frumin, Elissa Silverman and Paul Zukerberg; Republican Patrick Mara; and Perry Redd of the D.C. Statehood Green Party. Former Councilmember Michael A. Brown has dropped out of the race but remains on the ballot.
Frumin has led the money race so far with $130,000 raised through mid-March. He was a fundraiser for former president Bill Clinton. This is his first bid for local office.
