CHESTER, Md. — The Queen Anne’s County sheriff’s office says four young men have been killed and one injured in a two-vehicle collision near Chester.
Spokesman Dale Patrick says the accident occurred about 4 p.m. Wednesday on Cox Neck Road near Jones Road.
Patrick says the four victims, who were in their late teens, were in one vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle survived.
Authorities tell WJZ’s Derek Valcourt that the victims have been identified as 19-year-old Tyler Elzey, 18-year-old Harrison Rhoades Smith from Chester, 19-year-old Michael Ringenbach from Stevensville and 18-year-old Cory Pessagno from Chester.
Tyler Elzey was a member of the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Company, according to WJZ. First responders apparently burst into tears upon recognizing him.
The driver of the other car was identified as 73-year-old Eli Dabich Jr. He was airlifted to a local hospital complaining of back and chest pain.
The spokesman says speed appears to have been a factor in the head-on collision, but it is still under investigation.
